This Nashville wedding at Vanderbilt University will steal your heart! Marissa and Andrew’s relationship and love is so sweet. I mean, they fell in love with one another during the same moment! Soulmates? I think so! They carried that same charm into their wedding plans beautifully! Scroll down to learn more from the couple themselves!
What is your favorite quality in your husband/wife?
Andrew: “Marissa’s determination and commitment to our profession”.
Marissa: “Andrew is my true other half. I am the best version of myself when I am with him: The calm to my crazy, the quiet to my chaos, the reason to my nonsense!!’
When did you know you were falling in love?
Marissa: “Andrew and I were in the same medical school class. During our third year of medical school we ‘connected’ during a game of Hangman, both being hangman enthusiasts. This distraction paved the way for love and marriage. I just knew he was the one. I just knew.”
Andrew: “During our psychology rotation, technically not the first time we met, but it was the first time we ever spent time together. It was during a Hangman competition and I KNEW!”
Was the planning process as stressful as you imagined?
“My older sister was married 2 years before me, and my mom and her helped a lot since I was a long distance bride, being a surgical resident at Baylor in Dallas, TX. Both my mom and sister know my personality. They made all the perfect choices I just had to do the signing off.”
What would you recommend to every bride-to-be?
“Take a lot of deep breaths and enjoy every single minute! This is a once in a lifetime moment and there’s enough stress in life. Enjoy the best day of your life with your new husband, family, and friends. My husband and I had a little dinner to ourselves before we made our grand entrance. It was perfect and allowed us time to catch our breath. Also, we did the first look. I didn’t wear my veil or blusher, so he saw a ‘different me’ when I stood at the door of the Chapel with my dad. He said it was perfect to see me for the first time without 300 people watching him! I loved that!”
What traditions did you incorporate?
“I wore my grandmother’s garter which my mom, my sister and my cousin also wore. I wore a blusher as my dad escorted me down the aisle which was a family tradition. We had a ‘Venetian hour’ at our reception. My dad is full Italian and that was very special for him and his family that traveled to Nashville for our special day. In my bouquet was my great grandmother’s handkerchief also used in the bouquets of my sister, cousin, mom and grandmother. I had a cross from my husband’s maternal grandmother tied into my bouquet and now I want to make that a new Lichliter family tradition!”
Did you have a specific theme or design inspiration for your big day?
“My sister’s wedding and style was very traditional. I wanted to be more whimsical. We had a Polaroid photo area with clusters of lit willow branches that the guests tied their pictures on with ribbon. It was fabulous! Also, I had a fairyland candy station with moss covered pictures framed of us mixed in with the old-fashioned candy jars placed on wood bases. We had a bourbon bar room for Andrew and for the ladies a prosecco bar with mirrored tables and a backlighted bar. It showed the unique sides of our personalities.”
What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?
“‘You are The Best Thing.’ We picked it because that’s what we are to each other at the end of our long, sometimes 24 hour on call days at the hospital. ‘We’ve come a long way’ from the lyrics fits us perfectly. Through med school to residencies, the lyrics to the song were hand-painted on the aisle runner in the chapel. It was so awesome, a surprise my mom and her friend the florist, Joan Presley, did for us!”
What was the most memorable moment?
Andrew: “Making our first appearance at the reception followed by the first dance. The dance couldn’t have been better. Although it’s tough to top watching Marissa come down the aisle.”
Marissa: “I have 2! Our first look because I remember calling Andrew’s name, him turning around and looking at me. The pure love and joy on his face is something I’m grateful for every day and will never forget And, cutting our amazing cake. Our cake was truly a work of art. Signature Cakes by Vicki was a perfect match for us. She made the design and creation personal, and it was a big part of the wedding reception for me! I love wedding cakes. I make a point to always watch the cake cutting and eat at least one piece at every wedding so finally sharing that with Andrew was very special for me.”
Tell us about your grand exit!
“We exited via bubbles and lavender tosses. Everyone was wearing glow jewelry and glow sunglasses including the bride and groom! We had a 64 silver cloud Rolls Royce waiting for us at the end!”
Congratulations Marissa and Andrew!
