Wedding Greenery 101

December 5, 2017 Pink Lady Julie

When it comes to the flora at weddings, the majority of people focus heavily on their flowers; bouquets, centerpieces, cakes, all need to incorporate flowers! However, for a beautiful and modern looking wedding, it is so important to remember to include other types of foliage at your wedding, and right now we are obsessed with having lots and lots of greenery! It gives your wedding such a fresh and lively look, not to mention putting a new twist on the traditional look of colorful flowers everywhere. We created Greenery 101 to educate and inspire you on what greenery to use in your wedding and how best to incorporate it!

1. Tropical Fronds

Large palm frond type leaves are definitely in right now, whether it’s on clothing, backdrops for Instagram, or wedding decor. And we love it all! It is such a fun way to bring a tropical feel into your wedding, even if you aren’t getting married in a tropical location! Adding palm fronds to your cake is a cute alternative to flowers, and the idea of leaves as placemats is so original and cool! You really can’t go wrong with incorporating tropical greenery in your wedding; the more the merrier!

2. Cacti

Long understood as a symbol of enduring difficult conditions, cacti are absolutely gorgeous plants. These desert beauties are being seen everywhere, from art, to clothes, to the cubicle of your coworkers who struggles to keep plants alive, and we absolutely love the idea of using them in your wedding! While we wouldn’t recommend using a cactus in your bouquet, or in any arrangement that your guests might interact with, they are the perfect centerpieces and cake toppers! One of the many great things about cacti is that they come in so many different shapes, sizes, and styles, meaning that you can stick with the theme of cacti while still having variety throughout your decor. Perfection!

3. Pampas Grass

You may think you don’t know what Pampas grass is, but I guarantee you’ll recognize it when you see it! These gorgeous colored fluffy fronds are very common in landscaping, but are just now being seen in wedding decor. I think we’re all wondering the same thing; why haven’t we thought of this before?? Pampas grass looks so cool as a decoration and is the ideal addition to your boho wedding. While a bit large for things like bouquet or centerpieces, Pampas grass makes perfect arches and backdrops for some uniquely beautiful wedding pictures!

4. Succulents

Oh succulents, the world loves you so! You don’t need us to tell you that succulents are so in right now, but a list of wedding greenery wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favorite plant! Succulents have a way of making something plain look absolutely fresh, new, and chic. You can incorporate them into just about every aspect of your wedding, and they are guaranteed to be a hit! Plus, one of our favorite ideas involving succulents is turning your succulent centerpieces into wedding favors; each guest gets to take home a plant or two! It’s a great way to save money on favors as well as keeping you from having hundreds of succulents filling up your home. A win-win!

It’s a well known fact that the flora at your wedding is of utmost importance. Having plenty of live plants takes a wedding from average to extraordinary! Flowers are the most common plants at a wedding, but choosing to incorporate more greenery is a great way to make your wedding decor more modern and fresh looking. There are so many types of greenery you should consider having in your wedding, and hopefully this list has inspired you to branch out a bit and add some green to your big day!
