Thinking of eloping? Think no further…we have mapped out all the pros and cons for you! From planning, to cost, to family…we’ve thought of it all!
Pro: No Planning
There is something very romantic about a spontaneous elopement. No venue tours, no wedding planner, no design meetings, no guest list drafts, no invitations…sounds pretty good when you think about it! Sometimes the wedding planning can take away from what really matters…the commitment and start of your new life with the love of your life.
Con: No Planning!
Have you been dreaming of your wedding since you were a little girl? Do not let the hustle and bustle of the wedding planning get under your skin. Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy every moment of planning your perfect day! You may regret forgoing the big wedding you have always wanted if you decide to elope instead.
Pro: Save Your Money
If your budget is tight, eloping can save lots of money. Some couples would much rather save the money that could be spent on a wedding and put it towards the honeymoon or their new home!
Con: Impersonal Ceremonies
Though eloping saves money, every detail about a wedding is personal to the couple. The florals, decor, dress, wedding party, menu, and even the smallest details are all unique. These details will not only make your wedding day perfect, but will create amazing memories to look back on for the rest of your life. If you choose to elope, the ceremony space can be impersonal to you as a couple.
Con: No Family
Being surrounded by family and friends is one of the greatest parts of a wedding celebration. They are an important part of your life and want to be a part of your big day! Fathers dream of walking their daughter down the aisle and mothers think about their child’s wedding day their whole life. Excluding family can create unnecessary drama, and can damage relationships with not only your family, but your future in-laws.
Pro: No Family!
Do you have a crazy, twice-removed, uncle who you’re terrified might make a scene at your reception? Can your divorced parents not stand to be in the same room as each other? Do your parents and your fiance’s parents get along? Does thinking about your entire family being in a central location give you high levels of anxiety? If so, not having family attend your wedding can sound like the BEST idea! Dump the drama and keep the focus on you and your fiance by eloping in an intimate setting.
When choosing whether to elope or to have the dream wedding you have always wanted, these are all things to consider. Above all, choose what is best for you as a couple! Getting married is all about the start of your new life…and that is something worth celebrating!
