In honor of the Oscars tonight, we wanted to feature one of the most glam weddings that was recently featured in our Memphis Pink Bride magazine! Cathryn and Raymond’s wedding day is definitely red carpet worthy with their oh-so-romantic color scheme, extravagant floral arrangements, and dazzling decor! Let Cathryn tell you all about her big day below!
Did you have a specific theme or design inspiration for your big day?
“‘Loving Our Journey’ is a poem that I wrote and was printed on the program. The theme was chosen because it describes their romance…a nine-year journey to this day. ‘And so it began, our exploration of land and lakes of humbling skies and majestic seas. Soaring, swimming, adjusting, trusting and forever loving our journey.”
Any special moments during planning?
“What I appreciated most about my wedding was I trusted my mother, the coordinator, to conceptualize our vision. We told her what we wanted, met with her by phone bimonthly for 7 months, and it was done. We gave her an open bank account and budget, and she gave us a wedding that was romantic, elegant and heartfelt. ‘Mom, we don’t need wood carved name plates, sequin tablecloths, gold aisle carpets, florals on every table, flaming donut station, a cellist and a soloist.’ Mom was right and the guests enjoyed our wedding experience from beginning to end, and we shall live that day in our hearts forever.”
What was the most memorable moment?
“Seeing the three men in my life as I walked the aisle. My dad escorted me, my love waiting to say our vows, and my step-dad, singing, ‘You Are So Beautiful to Me’ by Joe Cocker as I walked down.”
What traditions did you incorporate?
“My something new, old, and blue was incorporated into one charm given to me by my mom and attached to the bouquet. The ‘new; was the pendant that had ‘old’ pictures of maternal and paternal grandparents on each side and the ‘blue’ was the blue crystal adorned on the charm. Both had long and successful marriages for over 60 years. I felt they walked down the gold glittered aisle with me.”
What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?
“‘All of Me’ by John Legend was the first song performed at the wedding. We like the song because ‘real love’ sees the essence of a persona and beyond the flaws that one thinks is obvious. Love is…all of me, loving all of you.
After the wedding, we danced into the reception to the song, ‘That’s What I Like’ by Bruno Mars. The audience erupted into applause and joined us on the dance floor. All of me loves all of you…that’s what I like, so we said, ‘I Do.’”
Tell us about your exit!
“After we said our vows, kissed, and jumped the broom to leave the ceremony, halfway down the aisle we kissed, again. I don’t remember that kiss and it was not planned but it’s in our pictures.
After the reception, it was not that grand, but we were the last to leave and turned out the lights, as Mr. & Mrs. Montgomery. We kissed and toasted each other because we worked together to plan our first event and felt a sense of accomplishment and joy to be married.”
We wish you all the best Cathryn and Raymond!
