The Top 10 Tennessee Neighborhoods for Newlyweds

November 5, 2017 Pink Lady Kendall

Knoxville’s premier realtor and first time home expert, Jennifer Trantanella is sharing her expert advice on the best neighborhoods in Tennessee for newlyweds!

There are many reasons why famous musicians such as Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, and Johnny Cash (to name a few), could not help themselves from singing about their love for Tennessee.  And, why wouldn’t they?  After all, you would be hard pressed to find an overall better state.  With its natural rolling beauty, moderate climate, thriving economy, national parks, friendly people, sprawling lakes, and relatively low cost of living – it just makes sense that Tennessee is the best place to be.  I’ve lived in Europe, four US states, and have visited almost every other region, yet I have always found myself missing my cozy Tennessee home.

As newlyweds, your first big milestone will be planting your roots by creating a home together.  Combine house hunting with wedding planning, and you may find yourself beyond overwhelmed.  Don’t fret though, I’m here to rescue you from drowning in a sea of neighborhoods!  To help you in your search for the perfect place, here are my top 10 picks (in no particular order) for the loveliest areas in the greatest state of America.

1. Germantown (Memphis)

Germantown, Memphis | The Top 10 Tennessee Neighborhoods for Newlyweds | The Pink Bride®

City of Germantown, Tennessee Government

Every home in this area is within walking distance to one of the more than 25 parks.  With impressively low crime rates, Germantown is one of the most sought-after areas in the state.  Upscale and alluring, it is an ideal place to grow a family.  In addition, Germantown possesses the prestigious AAA bond rating from both Poor’s Standard and Moody’s; it shares this honor with only a few other American cities.

2. Brentwood (Nashville)

City of Brentwood, Tennessee Local Government

Homes can be a bit pricey in Brentwood, however, you can get more bang for your buck than in Nashville’s popular west side.  Welcoming neighbors and safe streets give you a small-town feel, while remaining within an arm’s reach of the big city.  And while you may not be thinking of the (future) kids just yet, the public schools in this area rival the private schools.  If you’re interested in something long term, this is an amazing place to consider.

Neighborhood to check out: Autumn Oaks

3. Powell (Knoxville)

Country Walk Home on Zillow

Powell is a firmly established community to the north side of Knoxville, but continues to see rapid growth and is gaining in popularity as the go-to suburb for young families.  Quality health care facilities including a new hospital, chain and local restaurants, parks, and a large variety of shopping, provide an abundance of convenience.  The newly revamped downtown is home to quaint boutique shops and a family owned restaurant that provides locals with the small-town allure of rural America.  Still only 15 minutes from the heart of downtown Knoxville, the ease and charm of Powell is tough to match.

Signal Mountain is nestled at the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau where nature lovers will find the perfect place to start a home.  Surrounded by natural beauty, the residents are laid back but still very progressive.  Signal Mountain has the spirit of the country, yet is close enough to Chattanooga to enjoy all of the perks of city life.  Lookout Mountain is nearby as well and is the home of Rock City – where you can “See Seven States”, The Incline Railway – “America’s Most Amazing Mile”, and Ruby Falls – the world’s tallest underground waterfall.

Neighborhood to check out: Hidden Lakes

5. Sango (Clarksville)

Sango, Clarksville | The Top 10 Tennessee Neighborhoods for Newlyweds | The Pink Bride®

Sango Home on Zillow

Sango was once almost primarily farmland but has grown as many new housing developments have come up conveniently located near Clarksville.  The area also boasts many of Montgomery County’s most renowned parks, some of which feature nature trails.  Sango is also home to the Clarksville Marina right on the Tennessee River and the Smith Swimming Pool and Ballfield, which provides residents with a wonderful spot to play and cool off.   Community events are held all year long, including the Tri Clarksville Triathlon in August and Fright on Franklin in October.

6. Midtown (Memphis)

Midtown is home to art, theatre, history, culture, and diverse cuisine – which all unite to produce quite an eclectic neighborhood. With its many cultural attractions, such as the Memphis Zoo and the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, remarkable architecture, and multiple universities and colleges, this area puts you in the heart of the city.  Midtown tends to attract a younger and cultured crowd, perfect for an active newlywed couple who isn’t ready to resign to suburbia life just yet!

Franklin is affluent, yet maintains that down-home aura.  High-quality schools, safe neighborhoods, an abundance of history, and convenience make this town one of the top rated in the nation.  The friendly neighbors make this vibrant community anything but pompous, despite its desirability.  Franklin is not just known for its buildings and landmarks, but also for the people that make it feel like home.

Rebank, TN Government

As an enclave, this pleasant town allows residents to enjoy a short ten minute commute to the heart of downtown Chattanooga, but with substantially lower taxes than those in the city.  Red Bank is handily located near the airport, shopping, health care facilities, and dining establishments.  For the water lovers, it provides easy access to the Tennessee River.  With affordable prices, outstanding schools, and a plethora of civic activities, it should be easy to envision starting your home in Red Bank.

9. Farragut (Knoxville)

Farragut, Knoxville | The Top 10 Tennessee Neighborhoods for Newlyweds | The Pink Bride®

Town of Farragut

This solid community is known for its upscale and expensive neighborhoods with mostly professional home owners in the western most suburb of Knoxville.  The high price tag is worth the peaceful, family-oriented atmosphere, with proximity to a multitude of shopping and fine dining.  Residents love the accessibility to Lake Loudon and the Tennessee River, as well as the parks and greenways.  With a little extra effort, it is still possible to find affordable housing.  Farragut certainly lives up to its impeccable reputation with beautiful homes, perfectly manicured lawns, and excellent schools.

Neighborhood to check out:  Village Green

10. Oak Grove / Gray (Johnson City)

This is an up-and-coming area with the majority of development beginning in the 1990’s.  Now respected as a thriving community, Gray is positioned just outside the intersection of Interstate 81 and Interstate 26, which runs directly through Johnson City.  This makes it convenient to East Tennessee State University, a major medical school, and teaching hospital.  College town amenities, great healthcare, and an extremely low cost of living make Gray an ideal spot to settle as a budding couple.
